Tanning Bed FertilityIf getting pregnant is on your mind, you may want to avoid tanning beds. Tanning bed fertility research is still ongoing, and no conclusive proof that tanning beds can prevent conception has been found. However, most doctors agree that tanning bed fertility simply does not mix well with the conception of a child. No matter how much our brains need sunlight, UV rays are not good for the skin – and all doctors agree that those rays are not healthy for unborn babies either. So, even if you are just trying to get pregnant, it stands to reason that if something is not good for an unborn child, it probably isn’t conducive to the conception of that child either. One of the biggest concerns to unborn children is not the UV rays, but the temperature increase that one experiences when using a tanning bed. A rise in the mother’s body temperature presents a danger to an unborn child. Because body temperature plays an important role in the conception of a child, it also stands to reason that a rise in temperature may prevent or lessen the chances of conception as well. Not only should tanning beds be avoided during pregnancy, sunless tanning lotions should not be used either. These lotions are absorbed through the skin, and can have a negative impact on an unborn child. Again, if it hurts an unborn child, it probably isn’t good when you are trying to conceive either. You’ve heard the saying ‘when in doubt, don’t.’ Stick with that old stand-by when it comes to using tanning beds and tanning lotions while you are trying to conceive a child – and definitely while you are pregnant. There simply has not been enough research done to determine whether these practices are safe or not – and it is better to be safe than sorry! Use caution when it comes to tanning bed fertility, and put the well-being of your unborn child – and even your un-conceived child – ahead of your desire for a tan. The end result will be better, more rewarding, and definitely longer lasting than any tan that you could hope to achieve! |
