Tanning bed bulbs come in different types and different brands. The popularity of tanning beds has expanded the market for these lamps to accommodate all types of suntan beds being introduced in the market. Most of these bulbs emit both UVA and UVB rays.

Tanning bed bulbs are not the same as ordinary bulbs or lamps. These products are produced to emit rays that can induce a person’s skin to create additional pigment or coloring which results to tanning. Some tanning beds use bulbs that emit only UVA rays while others use lamps that give off both UVA and UVB rays.

One of the most popular brands of tanning lamp offered in the market is the AUVL X-Treme bulbs. This brand of bulbs is designed to work in all types of tanning beds. The brand is further subdivided into lamps for the face and those that are for the body. The brand offers low-pressure bulbs that emit minimum amount of ultraviolet rays but are still able to provide complete tanning functions. Another popular brand of bulbs for suntan beds is Wolff. On the average, tanning bed lamps are priced between $12.99 and $16.

Tanning bulbs vary in how long they last. The longevity of a tanning lamp depends on the brand, lamp wattage, tanning bed voltage and temperature of the room. The rule of thumb, though, in replacing bulbs is to base it on wattage. A 100W lamp should be replaced every 700 to 1000 hours, 160W lamps every 600 to 800 hours and 200W lamps every 500 to 700 hours. Face tanning lamps should be replaced every 500 to 700 hours.

Tanning bed bulbs come in different wattage, brands, features and sizes. The most important factor to consider in buying lamps is, of course, the type of tanning bed for which they would be used. Before purchasing these bulbs, check the specifications on the tanning bed manual or ask the manufacturer what would be appropriate for your particular suntan bed.
