Sun Light Lamps

While some people take advantage of tanning beds to achieve a deep, dark tan, other people find that they become ‘addicted’ to tanning simply because of the good feeling that they have after a session – as opposed to tanning for appearances sake. There is a good reason that people become ‘addicted’ to the tanning beds, but they could ultimately achieve that same good feeling with sun light lamps. Sun light lamps are less dangerous to the skin than tanning beds are.

Many people become addicted to tanning because the lamps promote the release of chemicals in the brain that create good feelings – such as serotonin. Scientists have proven that people who do not get enough sunlight suffer from depression much more often than people who do get enough sunlight. Sunlight is an important part of our overall well-being – simply because of the chemicals that the sunlight helps our brains to produce.

This is why people who suffer from depression are often prescribed ‘light therapy’ or ‘sunlight therapy.’ People who live in the northern hemisphere, where sunlight isn’t as abundant or as strong are often prescribed sun lamps – and their insurance companies pay for the lamps! These lamps are often prescribed to people who are bedridden, or unable to get out into the natural sunlight.

Scientists have found that this light therapy has been quite beneficial in defeating depression, seasonal depression, fatigue, and a multitude of other ailments. At the same time, however, UV rays from the sun, sun light lamps, and tanning beds can be quite dangerous if the skin is over exposed to the rays. So, the next time you visit the tanning salon, really think about why you are there – is it for the tan, or is it for the ‘happy’ feeling that you experience during and immediately after the session? If you find that you just want the good feeling, a sun light lamp would probably be a better solution for you – not to mention cheaper and less dangerous!

It is amazing that something that can be so dangerous can also be so beneficial! As human beings, we were not meant to be without sunlight – but as with most things, too much of a good thing is bad for you! Therefore, whether you are out in the natural sunlight, using a tanning bed, or using a sun light lamp, it is important to remember the golden rule: All Things In Moderation!
