Sun Lamps as an Alternative to Tanning BedsWhen you look up tanning options, you often find two key phrases: "sun lamps" and "tanning beds." Tanning beds are quite popular these days, and rare is the beauty and health spa that doesn't have it. So, more or less, we all have an idea what a tanning bed looks like. But what about sun lamps? How are they different from tanning beds? Are they more efficient, more practical, or just plain better, overall? How come they're causing a buzz around town - in short, what's the hype about? Both devices offer optimum skin tanning, but there are some very obvious differences. For one thing, sun lamps are smaller and more portable. They don't exactly provide a full-body tan, but they do provide a more focused tan - you'll find some facial tanning lamps or upper-body lamps, which would be easier to use in case you have "problem spots" on your skin that require more attention than the rest of your body. Sun lamps give a person much more freedom of movement than a tanning bed does. You can get a tan standing up or sitting down, and can even turn around or move around freely, so that your tan is evened out throughout your whole body. Another advantage to sun lamps is that you can use them to target specific areas in the skin that require phototherapy. Yes, tanning also has medical benefits! Exposure to the ultraviolet (UV) rays that are emitted by sun lamps and tanning beds has been proven to fight eczema, acne, and other common skin diseases. However, it's never good to expose yourself to too much UV light. Though artificial tanning may help with curing some dermal diseases, it's still pretty much an indoor simulation of direct sunlight, which has been proven to cause skin cancer, among other potentially serious skin problems. That's why if you're thinking of looking through lamps, getting one with an automatic timer would be beneficial. Many sun lamps come with built-in timers, which you should definitely take advantage of. Timers would spare you a lot of trouble and possible health issues! |
